what is longvida?


What is curcumin?  Curcumin is the phenomenal antioxidant compound that is responsible for the yellow color of Indian curries, and is found in our prepared foods, such as pickles and mustard. Curcumin is the primary compound found in most standardized extracts from turmeric (Curcuma longa) root.

Longvida® is a breakthrough formula containing the natural antioxidant curcumin, and is optimized for maximum targeting of curcumin into blood and tissues. It was developed by Verdure and an elite group of university neuroscientists at UCLA. Longvida® took many years to develop and perfect. 

Clinical data is consistent with human pharmacokinetics

(bioavailability) data,  where Longvida was at least sixty-five

times more bioavailable than unformulated curcumin based

on Cmax, and more than 100 times more bioavailable based

on Area Under the Curve (AUC). One groundbreaking finding

over the course of several bioavailability studies using different

doses, is that dosing of Longvida leads to therapeutic levels of

free (native or intact, NOT inactivate or glucuronidated)

curcumin in the bloodstream and target tissues.

Work from UCLA subsequently discovered that dosing of Longvida offers

therapeutic target concentrations of curcumin in the brain in addition to

other blood and tissue compartments (dual graphs, right). 

Later, a number of studies revealed chronic dosing of Longvida could

impact biochemical and behavioral endpoints in the brain (above).

Results indicate chronic dosing of Longvida may support healthy

synaptic function in the brain (bottom, right).

Although it may be difficult to determine which form of

Breaking Barriers 

In the late 1990s, a group of neuroscientists at the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) began to ask ‘WHAT IF?’.

WHAT IF we could significantly impact a global health issue?

WHAT IF a safe, natural compound could positively impact all the major mechanisms associated with healthy brain aging?

After screening many compounds, they stumbled upon curcumin, the active compound found in turmeric root and many foods. However, there was one major problem. Once consumed, curcumin failed to fulfill the three major requirements for bioavailability: solubility, permeability, and stability. Without bioavailability, the chances for efficacy are next to nil. They started to experiment with different lipid-based forms of curcumin; trying many different lipids, fats, cofactors, and technologies. In some cases, small improvements in bioavailability were observed, but none were able to reach therapeutic levels or impact clinical endpoints at reasonable doses. After many failed attempts, a breakthrough was made. A miscalculation was made, but the formula was tested anyway. It showed astonishing results, and a major discovery was made. The discovery solved all three bioavailability requirements and impacted efficacy endpoints at reasonable doses. The formula was so unique; it was submitted for worldwide patents. The process later became known as SLCP™ Technology, or Solid Lipid Curcumin Particle Technology.
